Launched in 2010 as part of United Way of Greater High Point’s 75th Anniversary, the CANpaign Food Drive was created to help restock local food pantry shelves—and energize the start of our annual fundraising campaign.

​

The initiative began with corporate in-house collections, and on CANpaign Kickoff Day, the United Way Campaign Chair would “ride shotgun” in an Old Dominion Freight Line truck, collecting thousands of pounds of food from across the community.

​

As food insecurity grew, so did the drive’s importance. CANpaign now collects an average of more than 65,000 pounds of food every September. Prior to the pandemic, it culminated in a large community-wide distribution event—first at the former Oak Hollow Mall, and later at Mendenhall Transportation Terminal.

When COVID-19 hit, CANpaign quickly adapted, shifting to a flexible, virtual model. Local businesses continued to give through Amazon wish lists, monetary donations, and safe in-house collections. That approach continues today—keeping CANpaign strong, accessible, and essential.
