A New KaBOOM! Multi-sport Court!
The High Point Parks & Recreation Department, High Point LEAP and United Way of Greater High Point have partnered together to transform the basketball court area at the Southside Recreation Center into a new KaBOOM! Multi-sport Court for the children in the Southside neighborhood! This was made possible with the support of the Newell Brands Charitable Foundation.
Play Matters for All Kids
We know that play matters for all children regardless of where you live. Children need the childhood they deserve with a safe place to play outdoors. Play reduces toxic stress for kids. KaBOOM! Sports Courts help address a lack of play opportunities for older youth that no longer play on playgrounds. Sports courts provide a wide variety of different sports options— such as basketball, hockey, volleyball and tennis— all available at the same location and on the same surface.
Recently, we partnered with High Point LEAP and the High Point Parks & Recreation Department to submit a grant application to KaBOOM! for this project. On October 12, 2019, we were announced as the winners of a grant funded by the Newell Brands Charitable Foundation!
KaBOOM! is the national non-profit dedicated to bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all kids, particularly those growing up in poverty in America.
The Newell Brands Charitable Foundation is committed to making life better for people where they live, learn, work and play. The Foundation supports eligible 501(c)(3) organizations that reflect Newell Brands’ values and align with the causes that are important to and inspire the Newell Brands employees. These include: Child Safety and Development, Education, Hunger, Outdoor Play and the Environment, Disaster Relief, Recovery and Rebuilding, Diversity and Inclusion.
A Community Build Day was scheduled for December 11, 2019 that encompassed the involvement of civic groups, community leaders, businesses and youth volunteering to help build the court and adjacent activities. Along with representatives from Newell Brands and KaBOOM!, approximately 115 local volunteers helped at our Community Build Day.
